St. Andrew's junior swimmer Gaby Van Brunt made waves at the Georgia Independent Schools Association state championships swim meet again at the Georgia Tech Aquatics Center on January 30. Van Burnt brought home three more gold medals, and it is the second year in a row.
In her high school career, Van Burnt has eight gold medals (first-place finishes), this year breaking her own GISA state records in the 50 free (23.43), 100 fly (55.48), and 100 back (56.03), which she is has gotten every year she has competed. In the 50 Freestyle, the junior broke her personal best and the GISA record.
Van Burnt swims outside of the St. Andrew's swim season for the Georgia Coastal Aquatic Team (GCAT). Van Brunt was the youngest swimmer to qualify for the Olympic Trials in 2020 in the 100-meter butterfly as a 13-year-old. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic delayed her participation in the event and pushed it back a year. She traveled to Omaha, Nebraska, in 2021 and participated on June 6, coming fifth in her heat. In October 2021, Gaby committed to Alabama for Swimming.
