The Tybee Island Maritime Academy (TIMA) Middle School (8-0-1) softball team recently capped back-to-back Savannah Chatham County Public Schools (SCCPSS) Middle School Softball Championships with a 10-5 victory over Garrison School of the Arts Middle School (7-1-1) in the middle school championship game held at Paulson Softball Complex on October 5, 2023.

The Tide and Garrison tied 14-14 in the first game of the 2023 season. TIMA received the number one seed for the playoffs because they gave up fewer runs during the regular season than Garrison. TIMA defeated Coastal Middle School 12-2 in the first round of the playoffs, while Garrison defeated Stem Academy 10-5. During the week, TIMA had to adjust because it was the school's fall break.

Coach Noel Ingram said. "Lilly Prewitt, TIMA's shortstop, had to transition to catcher because our regular catcher was out of town during our break this week. Annie Windsor seamlessly stepped in at shortstop, and they adapted so smoothly that it seemed as if nothing had changed. As a result, some other players filled in at key positions, and the team's performance still thrived even though we got behind."

TIMA trailed 4-0 after the first inning in the championship game, but they rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the first. The Tide scored two runs in the next three innings to the Gators one run to take a 10-5 lead and the win. "Cheyenne Jarvis was the winning pitcher and she did a phenomenal job. She really came on at the end of the season with her pitching," said Ingram
The PSR asked Coach Ingram what it meant to her, her team, and the school to win back-to-back championships.

"Winning back-to-back championships meant a lot to us. Last year, many of the girls had experience playing at Coastal Middle School and in Little League, so we credited their prior coaches for their development. However, this year, a good portion of what the girls learned came from our coaching staff, including assistant coaches Katie Holliday, Jennifer Fleming nad Peyton Prewitt, who also coaches our baseball team," said Ingram. "This experience showed us that we, as coaches, can make a significant impact. While I don't want to take all the credit because the girls won the game, it was a sign that we can continue to succeed. The program's consistency and ongoing success makes us proud, and it's a positive sign for the future and, of course for the school's athletic program."

The TIMA championship team was made up of six eighth-graders, Cheyenne Jarvis, Lillian Prewitt, Sophie Suarez, Annie Windsor, Arden Aguzzi, and Emma Workman, one seventh-grader, Kaylee Mosely, and five sixth-graders, Kensley Mosely, Emily Schum, Kaylee Ulrich, Brighid Parris, and Ansley Brown.
