The Wildcats of Richmond Hill high school wrestlers pinned a ticket to the Georgia High School State Association Team Duals Championships next weekend, January 22, 2022, at Brunswick High School. Richmond Hill High School defeated Langston Hughes High School 69-3 and Pope High School 43-24 to advance to the GHSA Championships. The Wildcats have been crowned the GHSA 6A Quad Champions held at Pope High School.
In the Quad championship match against Pope High School, Richmond Hill got big pins from Freshman Owen Osden in the 170-pound weight class. Mat Josefik at 106 pounds. Also, winning matches were Trey Bowkett, Thomas Crawford, Cody Willoughby, Roman Slaughter, Colin Dragon, Caden Whittaker, and Gaven Hill.
"Others who took a loss fought for every point. That is what teamwork is all about," stated Coach Evans. "Going to Pope, which is a state wrestling powerhouse, and performing the way they did, says something about how they wrestled for each other. It was a tremendous team effort. The underclassmen shined. Sometimes it isn't your upper-class "studs" that win a dual meet. Every single wrestler, match, point, and position matters."
