The Habersham School went 5-1 to capture the 14th annual LCA Tournament in Gainesville, beating Fidelis Christian 25-23, 25-21 in the final. Myla Shippy earned All-Tournament honors, and Brownette Olson was named MVP. The Patriots improved their record to 6-2 with the win.
It was a strong showing for a team that entered the season with high expectations. Head coach Susan Barry, now in her 12th year with the program, has built a squad with a mix of veteran leadership and young talent. The Patriots finished last season with a 25-14 record and compete in Region 4-DI A of GAPPS.
Habersham’s roster is anchored by two dominant outside hitters—senior Brownette Olson and sophomore Myla Shippy, both All-Region and All-State selections. Junior libero Betsy Kelly and junior setter Abbey Zellner, an All-Region pick, bring stability and experience. The team also features juniors Louisa Italiano, Paige Edwards, Addison Conger, and Claire Patterson; freshman Aniston Smeltzer; and seniors Laurel Baker and Georgia Reed.
“We have great leadership and two of the best outside hitters in our classification,” Barry said. “If we keep improving our consistency, we can make a deep run this year.”
The Patriots will aim to carry their tournament momentum into upcoming region play, seeking another successful postseason run.
