Despite rainy, windy conditions on Jekyll Island, Kate Barber posted scores of 73-75 to finish 4-over par and second in the Girls 13-14 age group in the Jekyll Island Cup played at Jekyll Island Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday.
The Jekyll Island Cup is a US Kids Regional tournaments and attracts some of the country's best junior golf talent. Barber led for 35 of the 36 holes but ended as the runner up when she bogeyed the final hole and Sawyer Brockstedt from Rehoboth, Delaware, birdied the hole.
Barber, who finished fourth at the US Kids Golf World Teen Championship in July in the Girls 13 age group, led Brockstedt, who won the US Kids Golf World Teen Championship's Girls 13 age group, by one stroke after a 1-over par 73 in Saturday's first round. Sunday's final round was delayed several times by thunderstorms, and Brockstedt played her last five holes 1-under par to capture the tournament championship.
