Performance Initiatives of Savannah Lifts 21 GOLD and 3 SILVER Medals

Savannah, GA - Nine hundred and ninety-one athletes, pivoted to an online national competition this month due to COVID-19. The year 2020 is the first year in our history where we won't be able to hold an in-person Senior or Youth National Championships or an American Open Finals," USA Weightlifting CEO Phil Andrews said. "

Performance Initiatives(PI) athletes competed online at home last week for national titles. Our PI champions have been training and studying consistently to prepare for this event. While not being able to travel as a team is disappointing, they were excited to compete and test their training.

Introducing your 2020 USAW Youth National Champions:

  • COREY ROBINSON (13U/+73kg) competing in his first national championships went 6 for 6 snatching a personal record (pr) of 76kg(GOLD), Clean & Jerk 95kg(pr)(GOLD) totaling 171kg (pr)(GOLD)
  • KAIYA BRYANT (14-15/55kg) showed out lifting 6 for 6 and winning her 4th USAW Youth Nationals Championships /scoreboard: Snatch: 60kg, 62kg, 64kg CJ: 80kg, 83kg, 85kg. Total: 149kg

  • KYE BRYANT (16-17/61kg) online. Kye is a 2018 Youth National Champion and 2019 Team USA member. Keep Rising Kye! Snatch: 90kg, 94kg, 98kg CJ: -115kg, 115kg, 118kg Total: 216kg

Introducing your 2020 Senior National and American Open Champion- CARLOS MILLEN (61kg)

Carlos "Mighty" Millen competed in the 2020 USAW American Open Final and Senior Nationals Friday, December 4, 2020. Snatched 104kg C&J 135kg Totaled 239kg lifting his way to winning his 6th National Championship since he began his journey in the 2017 Youth National Championships (Junior National Champion 2018, 2019, 2020, 2020 University National Champion) and now his first Senior National Championship title! Millen earned GOLD medals across the board in both competitions: American Open Final & USAW Senior Nationals.

Nia Walker did her thing at the 2020 USAW American Open Final & SR National Championships online. Walker(87+) lifter a PR snatch of 91kg and PR total of 206kg; just a week after representing Team USA in the JR Pan American Championships online Snatch: 85kg, 89kg, 91kg (PR!!) CJ: 115kg, -120kg, -120kg Total: 206kg (PR!!!)

USAW Youth National PI Athlete Results include:

  • Ahmad Minor(13U/73kg) SILVER- PI Champion, Ahmad Minor, lifts his way to podium in a 6 for 6 showing at the USAW Youth Nationals online Minor lifted in 13U/73kg division snatching 44kg, CJ 61kg totaling 105kg Congratulations Ahmad Minor on his PR lifts and sweeping silverCongratulations. 

  • Sam Jex-Gomez (11U/32kg) on his PR snatch in the 2020 USA Weightling Youth National Championships online. Snatch: 12, 14kg, 16kg(11th) CJ: -20, 20, -22(11th) Total: 36kg(12th)
  • Tyler Black (13U/44kg)Unstoppable! Sometimes holiday eating and a growth spurt boost you out of a weight class; Tyler didn't let that stop focusing on lifting today. Way to go Tyler Black (11U/former 39kg) Lifting strong with 6 for 6 lifts of: Snatch: 16, 18, 20kg CJ: 23kg, 25kg, 28kg Total: 48kg
  • Makaila Brown (16-17/55kg) aka "Jumping Bean" tried something new this week: she competed in her first USAW Youth National Championships. We are especially proud of Makaila for her perseverance and focus for the last few years to earn her spot on the national stage this week! Snatch 40, 42, 44kg CJ: -54, 54, -57 Total: 98kg Keep Persevering Jumping Bean.... this is a great beginning.
  • Robbieon Lee (13U/64+), competing in her first national championships Thursday! Robbieon Lee snatched 53kg(4th)CJ 60kg (4th), totaling 113kg (4th). Lee totaled a 23kg pr. It looks like Lee finds her focus on the national stage- Keep Rising Robbieon 
  • Keontay Price(16-17/81kg) matched his best total as he returned to the platform in the 2020 USAW Youth National Championships (16-17/81kg) Snatch: 95kg, 100kg , -105kg (4th) CJ: 120kg, -125kg, -125kg (7th) Total: 220kg (5th)
