The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) state playoffs are underway, and several Savannah-area teams have started or are preparing for first-round matchups in tennis and baseball. Benedictine and Bryan County advanced with a shutout win in boys tennis, while Richmond Hill and Effingham County were eliminated. Islands, Jenkins, Savannah Arts, Savannah Country Day, and Savannah Christian will all compete later this week.
On the girls' side in tennis, South Effingham earned a big upset win as the #4 seed, defeating the #1 seed Kennesaw Mountain team. Other local teams, Richmond Hill, Islands, Savannah Arts, Bryan County, Savannah Country Day, Savannah Christian, St. Vincent's, and Calvary, are set to play between Tuesday and Thursday.
In baseball, Effingham County, Calvary Day, Savannah Christian, Savannah Country Day, Richmond Hill, Benedictine, Islands, and Bryan County all open first-round doubleheaders this week with hopes of moving on. Schedule via Dennis Knight Savannah Morning News
