St. Andrew’s School Seniors Win GISA Academic Athlete Award

Four St. Andrew’s seniors have received the prestigious Morris C. Johnson Academic Athlete Award by the Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA), Cayleigh Nicholson, Matt Eling, Denton Lord, and Sam Perkins (pictured l to r) all received the award last week.

Student-athletes who receive the honor must meet criteria that includes ranking in the top 10 percent or top 10 academically in his or her class, have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher, have an SAT score of 1,300 or higher, and letter twice in a GISA-sanctioned sport.

Nicholson lettered in cross-country, soccer, and swimming and will attend Georgia Tech in the fall. Eling lettered in soccer and swimming and will attend Georgia Tech in the fall. Lord lettered in baseball for four years and will attend UGA in the fall. Sam Perkins lettered in soccer freshman through junior year and will attend Georgia Tech in the fall.

In 2018, St. Andrew’s joined the Georgia Independent Schools Association. This marks the first year for a student-athlete from the school to receive the Morris C. Johnson Award.
