In a world of assumptions, let's go straight to the source and get the rundown on Region 3-AAA's Region Basketball Tournament. 

 

This upcoming week the region will kick off its intense five-day tournament (2/13, 2/14, 2/15, 2/17, & 2/18). The logistics and planning of the tournament were planned and voted on by coaches and athletic directors (AD) in the winter/spring planning meeting in early 2022. At this meeting, coaches and AD's determined the girls side would host in 2023 and the boys side would host in 2024. Other details voted on were the format, the suggested game times, tiebreaker procedures, and many other important decisions to help guide the region. 

 

The top girls team is Calvary Day School with an impressive 15-1 record. Because of this, the final two days of the region tournament will be hosted at Calvary Day School. Prior to those days, the higher girls seed in that bracket will host both the girls and boys teams as they play their way to a possible region championship. 

 

The schedule is as follows:

Savannah Christian will host Groves for the girls' side play (the girl's teams total nine since SVA is all girls) on February 13, 2023, at 4:30 pm. 

 

AE Beach High School will host the winner of the play-in for the girl's side at a 5:00 pm game on February 14, 2023, and the boy's side of Long County vs. Liberty County at 6:45 pm.

 

St. Vincent's will host Johnson girls at 5:00 pm on February 14, 2023, and the boy's side of Savannah Christian and Country Day at 6:45 pm.

 

The next round of hosting on February 15, 2023, heads to Long County, where the girls will host the winners from the Beach game at 5:00 pm, and the winner of the boy's Long County/Liberty County game will match up against Calvary Day School at 6:45 pm.

 

Also hosting on February 15, 2023, will be Liberty County, hosting the winner of the SVA game for the girls at 5:00 pm, and the winner of the SCPS and SCDS boys' game will match up against Groves at 6:45 pm.

 

On February 17, 2023, all groups will come to the same site for the final four matchups. Country Day girls will play the winner from the Liberty County game at 1:00 pm. The Johnson boys will play the winner of the Groves game at 2:45 pm. Next, Calvary girls will play the winner of the Long County game at 4:30 pm. And finally, the Beach boys side will take on the winner of the Calvary boys game at 6:30 pm. 

 

On February 18, 2023, at Calvary, the boy's side will start the day with the 3rd/4th determining match at 1:00 pm. The girl's 3rd/4th match will follow at 2:45 pm. The boy's region championship match will be at 4:30 pm, and the girls will follow at 6:30 pm. 

 

Please note each game requires a ticket. All gyms will be cleared between each game, so families have priority to see their team in action. Links have been sent to AD's/coaches, so families can purchase half of the gym capacity, and only the remaining unsold tickets will be at the door. Schools will be updated if presale tickets sell out.
