Stacy Bennett, Richmond Hill High School's athletic director, is in the running for the Varsity Brand National Athletic Director of the Year Award.

Bennett is one of 13 finalists who are in the running for the Varsity Brands award. Bennett was named the GHSA Region 1-AAAAAAA Athletic Director of the Year this past year.

In 2022, Bennett became the athletic director at Richmond Hill High School. After long time athletic director Mickey Bayens retired, he went from assistant athletic director to Wildcat AD.

"He is one of the most dedicated and professional athletic directors in the business," said RHHS Head Football Coach Matt LeZotte. "It has been an exciting calendar year since he has taken over leading our athletic department. The successes are not a fluke, and the culture that has been created sure is a difference-maker."

Bennett was the head baseball coach at RHHS before he became an assistant principal and athletic director. He led the Wildcats to 162 wins, and the Wildcats won four straight region titles under his leadership.

After playing baseball in college at Armstrong State University, Bennett spent three years in the minor leagues for the New York Mets.

Bennett went to Long County High School for one year before coming to Richmond Hill.

Varsity Brands is the leader in promoting student experiences in sport, spirit, and achievement through BSN SPORTS (sporting goods), Varsity Spirit (cheerleading uniforms and equipment), and Herff Jones (class rings). Varsity Brands has given awards to schools, groups, and leaders who help build pride and community spirit in high schools across America, and this marks the seventh year recognizing the National Athletic Director of the Year.
