Grassi Roofing Flag Football Player of the Week: First Time Ever Awarded to an Entire Team, Recognizing Calvary Day's Collective Effort.
Calvary Day scored a season-defining 7–6 win over Southeast Bulloch on Nov. 17. Southeast Bulloch came in undefeated and ranked No. 7 nationally by USAFlagFootball.com, but the Cavaliers played with energy from start to finish and shocked the Yellow Jackets. For their unified effort, Calvary Day received the Grassi Roofing Flag Football Player of the Week as a team—the first time this award went to an entire roster. This is two years in a row that the Cavaliers have defeated the four-time defending GHSA state champs.
Game Recap
Calvary leaned on a steady offense and a tough defense to earn the one-point win. Quarterback Page Stewart went 14-of-22 for 174 yards through the air and the lone touchdown. Rily Grassi led the receivers with 61 yards, and Lilee Garcia added 28 rushing yards.
On defense, senior Kinsey Prada — also a standout volleyball player — stepped up with four solo pulls and a key interception that helped Calvary protect the lead late in the game.
The victory snapped Calvary’s three-game losing streak at that point of the season and moved the Cavaliers to 11–7. Southeast Bulloch dropped to 12–1 and took its first loss of the season.
Coach Nick Grassi’s Reaction
“We knew we were fighting a giant, and our girls knew the energy had to stay high the entire game — and that’s exactly what they did,” said Calvary coach Nick Grassi. “They never slowed down and never took their foot off the gas. They bought into the idea that it was going to take all four quarters, and they succeeded. I couldn’t be more proud of us as a team, from the coaching staff to the sidelines and the fans.”
The Caviliers completed the regular season with a 13-7 record and as The Yellow Jackets finished 15-1.
Up Next
As both teams prepare for the GHSA Flag Football Playoffs in separate divisions, Calvary Day looks to build on this momentum in Division 2, while Southeast Bulloch seeks to defend its remarkable four-year championship streak in Division 3. Their determined performances promise an exciting postseason ahead.
