Sometimes it’s about toeing the rubber and setting the tone. Sometimes it’s about stepping in the box and applying pressure every inning. This week, we saw both.
One arm took control and never let go. One bat stayed hot every trip to the plate.
This week, two standout performances emerged: Mason Omohundro of Savannah Christian is the Player of the Week, and Quinn Johnson of Calvary Day earns Pitcher of the Week honors after a dominant stretch on the mound.
Pitcher of the Week – Quinn Johnson
Calvary Day | Senior
When the ball is handed to you, you’ve got to compete and that’s exactly what Quinn Johnson did.
Johnson turned in back-to-back complete game performances, starting with an 8-inning complete game, 2-1 win, against Glynn County, giving up just one run on 93 pitches.
Then he followed it up with a 6-inning shutout against Long County on April 2, where he struck out 12 and allowed just four hits.
He attacked hitters, filled up the zone, and gave his team a chance every time he stepped on the mound.
Calvary Day head coach Jakob Gross said Johnson has been the guy they trust when it matters most.
“Quinn has had a great run of success on the mound. He’s a competitor and is who you want on the mound in a big game.”
That’s what you want from your ace — take the ball, set the tone, and go to work.
Player of the Week – Mason Omohundro
Savannah Christian | Senior
At the plate, Mason Omohundro set the table and never let up.
He went 7-for-9 (.778) on the week in a big series against Toombs County with two doubles, two RBIs, and six runs scored, doing his job at the top of the order.
Moved into the leadoff spot, Omohundro used his speed, got on base, and kept the pressure on all week.
Savannah Christian head coach Matt Oglesby said Omohundro has become a key piece of their offensive strategy.
“Mason has been a steady bat for us all year. He is an elite runner and has really become a catalyst for our offense.”
That’s what you want at the top, get on base, create chaos, and let the lineup roll.
