Sometimes the calendar flips to February and the games start to mean even more. This week, Aniyah Wright of Groves and Chase Brown of St. Andrew’s stepped up when it counted.
Aniyah Wright | Groves High School
Senior | Guard
Groves senior Aniyah Wright put together back-to-back big-time performances on February 3 and 4, earning her second Coach’s Corner Girls Basketball Player of the Week honor this season.

On February 3, Wright poured in 21 points at Beach High School, leading the Lady Rebels on the offensive end in a 50-44 win. She set the tone early, attacked the rim, and finished strong when her team needed it most.
The very next night, February 4, she stepped up again with 30 points at Southeast Bulloch in a win. In that game, Wright also reached a major career milestone, joining the 1,000-point club.
Head coach Jademone Jones said Wright’s impact goes beyond scoring.
“Aniyah is a very important part of the Lady Rebels,” Jones said. “She plays a major role in the team’s success and is a big reason why the program has achieved so much this season. As the team and region’s leading scorer, her teammates look to her for leadership and rely on her to help guide them to victory every game.”
Milestones are special, but Wright’s steady leadership is what keeps Groves moving forward.
Chase Brown | St. Andrew’s School
Sophomore | Guard
At St. Andrew’s, sophomore Chase Brown put together a strong two-game stretch.
On February 3 at Frederica, Brown scored 11 points and hit three of his five shots from beyond the arc. On February 6 at Bulloch Academy, he followed that with 26 points and 12 rebounds, including four three-pointers.
Head coach Mel Abrams said Brown’s growth has come from his work behind the scenes.
“Chase made a commitment this past offseason to work on his areas of growth,” Abrams said. “The last few weeks, we have seen that hard work pay off.”
For a sophomore, Brown is playing with confidence and energy, giving St. Andrew’s a lift as the season heads toward the postseason.
